How to manage Conditional fields
| Conditional Fields definition: Fields that users can visualize only after a specific condition is triggered. For example if I say that the value of my item is over $10,000 I can dynamically request to add more information like a dedicated Field to explain my request. |
For example, if my item's value is over $10,000, I can dynamically request to add more information like a dedicated Field to explain my request.
Conditional Fields are one of the different options to add Logic and Conditions with Virtus Flow. For more information, please visit the dedicated KB.
1. A standard condition is "visibility" when I want to show or hide a specific field.
To add this interaction, follow these steps:
The three options available are:
- Always - default
- Only if - A conditional field
- Never - A hidden field
2. Select "Only if" to add a Condition
This image shows you the Condition and Rules Management
You can create different conditions with "AND" and "OR" and combine them.
The "Operator" field dynamically changes based on the Field Type. For example, if you have a field type "Currency," you can expect to show the field only when it is less or equal to a specific value (e.g., $10,000).
3. On Multi Text or Multi Select fields you can now use the Contains field
This allows you to have fields show or activate when another fields answer contains the selected choice. For example, the below field is only visible if the Field "What numbers need to be notified for law enforcement?" contains 999-884-3733. This can be configured for any value.
4. Ability to define default values in Options List type fields
It is now possible to define default values for Select type fields. For example, within a process, if we have a Select type field that takes records from the resource list, we can go and enter a default value; so when the process is executed, the default value will be the first value shown, although it will be possible to change it as with any Select field.
Below is what it looks like inside the process:

| NOTE: A conditional field can also be the starting point of a sub-workflow or additional step. |
